Southeast Public Health has put a decision to close satellite offices in some communities on hold.
In late November, the health unit’s board announced it would be closing offices in communities including Kemptville as of March, 1, 2026 with the main reason why cited as cost savings.
That decision prompted North Grenville Mayor Nancy Peckford to call for its reversal as she says shutting its doors would have far-reaching and negative consequences for one of Ontario’s fastest-growing rural communities and for the broader Leeds and Grenville region.
Mayor Peckford says that the board has agreed to defer any discussion about closing satellite offices until September 2026.
She tells Moose FM that a final decision has yet to be made.
“I’m quite frankly still concerned about the long-term fate of these offices but I believe we have started an important conversation with the board and they heard us loud and clear.”
She adds that she will continue to make a compelling case for why it is absolutely critical to have a public health unit office in our growing community.
