Human remains found near Smiths Falls, three people charged with first degree murder

OPP said Friday morning they have found human remains near Smiths Falls, just two days after three people were arrested and charged with first degree murder in connection to the disappearance and death of Robbie Thomson.

Thomson was reported missing in October, 2023. Police have said while his body has not been located, their investigation determined he was the victim of a homicide.

OPP executed a search warrant on Kelly Jordan Road, northeast of Smiths Falls, on Thursday and found human remains on a property.

Police said a postmortem examination is required to confirm identity and cause of death.

The accused individuals remain in custody following a bail hearing. The charges are set to be addressed at Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Nov. 5.

Several OPP detachments are assisting with the ongoing investigation. The Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service are assisting, with support from OPP Forensic Identification Services.

Police said residents of Kelly Jordan Road will continue to see a police presence.

There is no risk to public safety.
