Update: 11:33 a.m. Wednesday
Police are releasing more details on their investigation into two fires, a stolen township vehicle and a collision in Cardinal.
Grenville County OPP say they along with firefighters were called to a house fire on Adelaide Street in Cardinal around 4 a.m. Tuesday with the home gutted in the blaze.
One of the fire department’s pick-up trucks was stolen from the fire scene, according to police, and it was then involved in a collision with another vehicle on County Road 2.
Investigators say there were no injuries in the collision but the other vehicle sustained heavy damage.
While still at the original fire scene, a second fire was reported at the fire hall on Dishaw Street in Cardinal with a male seen running away.
Officers located the stolen truck near the second fire scene and one person was taken into custody.
A 40-year-old Cardinal male faces charges including arson, assault with a weapon and dangerous operation and is being held in custody with a court appearance scheduled for Friday in Brockville.
The investigation into the initial housefire is ongoing by Grenville OPP Crime Unit, in collaboration with the Office of the Fire Marshal.
Edwardsburgh Cardinal Mayor Tory Deschamps tells Moose FM they will provide further updates when possible.
“Follow the townships social media, or the OPP or the volunteer firefighters social media and they will get as accurate information as quickly as we can put it out.”
Deschamps is thanking local firefighters and OPP for their rapid and professional response.
