The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit says Acetaminophen (Tylenol) remains a safe and appropriate option for managing fever and pain in pregnancy.
The message comes after U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that there is a link between the drug and autism.
In the U.S., doctors will soon be advised not to prescribe the pain reliever to pregnant women.
The local health agency says that, when used at the lowest effective dose for the shortest necessary time, it poses no risk to pregnant women.
The Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada says untreated fever poses its own risks and that the current evidence does not support a causal link between acetaminophen and autism.
