Local student racks up 999 volunteer hours

Josh Gilbey may be in grade 11, but he’s already far exceeded the mandatory 40 volunteer hours to graduate. The North Grenville District High School student has 999 hours logged on his transcript. Gilbey moved to Kemptville from Toronto, where he put in most of his hours.

He says the roughly 42 full days of volunteering were spent fostering kittens. Gilbey noted his job was to make sure they were tame enough to get adopted by a new family.

He says it was a great learning experience. Gilbey is a budding entrepreneur who started his own business, through the Summer Company Program.

He says Shot 2 See Photography offers mostly nature images. Gilbey says he likes to capture anything nature related, including animals and plants. His specialty is macro photography.
