2,600 tulips to be displayed in Merrickville

The inaugural Merrickville Tulip Festival kicks off this weekend. People can check out 2,600 tulips through to May 19.

Festivities include live music, crafts and exhibits.

The Merrickville Chamber of Commerce purchased the bulbs and the Lions Club took over planning.

Coordinator Steve Hurndell says the idea for the festival bloomed with the bulbs and the live music and craft shows were added in.

Festivities begin with a dinner and dance tomorrow night at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 245.

Hurndell says tickets are available online. He says you can also pick them up at Mirrick’s Landing Country Store, Brewed Awakenings and at the door.

Music shows will also be going on both weekends. Bands include the Ken Seely Trio and 4 Way Street on May 18, with Off the Grid finishing out the festival on May 19 at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church.
