KDH & BGH competition leads to over 500 new organ donors

The friendly competition between the Brockville General Hospital (BGH) and Kemptville District Hospital (KDH) has ended. In recognition of Be A Donor month, the two hospitals made a bet to see which one could get the most people to register as organ donors.

The CEO of the hospital with less new organ donors would spend the day as Cardiac Carl, the mascot for Trillium Gift of Life Network. The competition wrapped up April 30.

Over 500 new donors have signed up as a result of the challenge. Frank Vassallo, KDH CEO, will sport the Cardiac Carl costume at BGH tomorrow afternoon.

Both CEO’s say the true winners of the competition are the thousands of patients waiting for organ and tissue donation. More than 1,500 people in Ontario are currently waiting for transplants.
