Non-emergency 9-1-1 calls strain police resources: OPP

The Grenville County OPP got 28 calls to 9-1-1 last month that were not for emergencies. The OPP is reminding people that 9-1-1 should only be used in a life-threatening situation, to stop a crime in progress or to report a fire.

The non-emergency number for police should be used for other issues like stolen bikes, noise complaints and vehicle break-ins.

Pocket dials to 9-1-1 have also been an issue, according to the OPP. Police have to send to 9-1-1 calls to make sure there is no emergency and pocket dials can interfere with response to a real emergency.

People can call 1-888-310-1122 to report a non-emergency.
