Local students take part in province-wide walkout

The Students Say No movement came to Kemptville. Students from three local schools walked out of class today. The movement was started by Natalie Moore, a grade 12 student from Listowel, to protest increasing class sizes, teacher cuts and mandatory online courses.

Over 800 schools across the province registered to participate. Students from St. Michael Catholic High School, North Grenville District High School and Sainte-Marguerite-Bourgeoys took part in the walkout.

St. Mike’s student Lauren Pederson says you can’t force people to take online courses. She says everyone learns differently.

NGDHS student Liam Murdock says of all the systems to make cuts, education is the silliest. He says if you make cuts to education, there will be less educated people, leading to less high paying jobs and ultimately less money circulating the economy.
