Green bins possible for North Grenville

The results of the Future of Waste Management in North Grenville survey are in. The findings were presented to council last night. A total of 813 people took the survey, which ran from March 13 to April 1.

Engineering Technologist Brandon Shipman says respondents provided open comments at the end of the survey. He says there were people both for and against a green bin program to collect organic waste. Shipman says there were also people in support of and opposed to bag tags and multiple people asking about the cost of different programs.

North Grenville currently runs weekly solid waste pick-up and bi-weekly collection of recycling, alternating between plastics and fibre. Six options were put forward and four include green bins. Councillor John Barclay says the municipality is leaning towards option three.

Shipman says that option includes bi-weekly solid waste pick-up, bi-weekly recycling and weekly collection of organics.

All six options will be put out for tender and the numbers brought back to council for consideration. The municipality is looking as running a three-year pilot project for the option selected.
