The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville is looking at options for the County Road 43 and South Gower Drive intersection. The plan is to install a traffic light, but a roundabout is also being considered.
County Director of Public Works Arup Mukherjee says the intersection meets the requirements for a traffic light from a volume perspective. He says there are ongoing concerns about safety at the intersection.
The county is moving forward with design plans, to be brought forward in the 2020 budget. Work on the intersection is slated for next spring.
Mukherjee says it’s not just a matter of putting up a light and calling it a day. He says the design could include left and right turning lanes.
He says a roundabout may not be feasible, as it takes up more land, though roundabouts do come with long-term cost savings.
