Councillor Craig McCormick resigns, Kristin Strackerjan appointed

A North Grenville Councillor has stepped down. Craig McCormick was elected on October 22. He submitted resignation papers on Tuesday, after not attending Committee of the Whole Monday night. He cited personal reasons for resigning, according to a press release from the municipality.

Kristin Strackerjan, a candidate in the 2018 election, has been appointed to the role of councillor. She had the fifth most votes for councillor candidates.

Mayor Nancy Peckford says council looks forward to working with Ms. Strackerjan. Deputy Mayor Jim McManaman says “we appreciate the considerable efforts that Mr. McCormick made to fulfill his responsibilities and wish him all the best in future endeavours.”

The municipal bylaw states that if a councillor steps down within six months of an election, the person who would have been elected next based on votes will be appointed.

“I am pleased to accept the position of councillor and am enthusiastic about serving all the residents of North Grenville in this new capacity,” says Strackerjan.

She will officially be sworn in on February 5.
