Municipality handing out free helmets this Saturday

There’s nothing better than free! Municipal staff are handing out free bike helmets, bells and light kits this Saturday during the Shop Local Showcase. Money to buy the helmets came from the Safe Cycling Education Fund – a provincial grant program. North Grenville received over $7,000 and bought 295 helmets, 240 light kits and 250 bells. Director of Parks and Recreation Mark Guy says the grant process was simple.

Everyone is welcome to stop by the municipal booth and take home a free helmet. North Grenville staff will also be handing out young cyclist guides, which is an introduction to the rules of the road for kids. Guy says the municipality has been very successful with active transportation grants in recent years.

The municipality is also running a colouring contest during the event. The winner will get a free week at Camp Summerside. Doors open at 9 a.m. at the North Grenville Municipal Centre.
