The Every Kid in our Communities Coalition of Leeds and Grenville is looking for a few deserving community members.
Tawnya Boileau, Chair of the EKIOC Development Assets Group, says the coalition is looking for organizations, businesses and people who make a difference in the lives of children and youth in the area. The Health Unit calls these groups ‘asset builders’ because they create activities or opportunities that help young people in the area build positive skills or qualities. Boileau describes asset builders as someone who expresses care and invest time in children or youth. She also stresses that there are many ways to be a positive influence including inspiring children and youth, giving them a voice and advocating for their rights.
Coordinator Margaret Fancy says everyday organizations influence the lives of young people in a positive way and they want to pay tribute. According to Boileau the coalition is a group of over 35 agencies and organizations working together to build communities where youth are safe, healthy, valued and successful. They really focus on building resilience.
