The Local Health Unit is Promoting Children’s Dental Care through Brush Up on the Facts

Just because they’re baby teeth, doesn’t mean they don’t need to be checked.

Certified Dental Assistant with the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit Bronwyn McFarlane says when kids have dental pain it’s more than just having a cavity. With this in mind the Health Unit is promoting the Brush Up on the Facts: Keep Kids’ Teeth Healthy campaign.

The initiative focuses on the impact dental health has on growth and development, while highlighting the free dental services that are available for some children. Healthy Smiles Ontario is a free program for eligible children between 0 and 17 years old that covers a variety of treatments including cleaning, cavity filling and emergency dental care. Eligibility is based on the household income and number of children.

Bronwyn says children need to keep their teeth healthy for their overall health, adding that’s why they need the program. More details on the Brush Up on the Facts campaign can be found here and the Healthy Smiles Ontario website is here.
