The OPP Has Released More Details About the Wrong Way Collision on the 401 Last Week

The OPP has released more details from last week’s wrong way collision on the 401.

A 47-year-old man from New Brunswick is facing numerous charges after fleeing from police and causing a collision by driving westbound in the 401’s eastbound lanes. Police say the loan occupant of the eastbound vehicle was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries and a Highway Safety Division officer received minor injuries during the initial traffic stop.

The OPP says the accused was first stopped on the 401 in South Stormont Township but after coming to a stop the driver refused to cooperate with the officer and continued along the highway. The vehicle, which was a commercial rental, then travelled westbound along the eastbound lanes, hitting a passenger vehicle and fleeing the scene. Police eventually stopped the suspect on Boundary Road.

They are now facing 11 charges in Ontario Court including assault of a Peace Officer, Flight Causing Bodily Harm and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
