The 401 is closed, and there is no estimate for when it will be reopened.
The 401 eastbound between Maitland Road and Johnstown is closed due to a multi-vehicle collision at around 10:30pm. A preliminary OPP investigation shows that two transport trailers and three vehicles were travelling eastbound when the collision occurred.
Two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, three have been transported to hospital by ambulance and one by air ambulance, with serious and life threatening injuries. A man has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.
The 401 westbound is also closed between Prescott and Johnstown for a separate investigation.
Drivers will also want to note the traffic lights at Edward Street and King Street in Prescott are malfunctioning. There is an OPP officer on site directing traffic but going is slow.
