MP Brown warning about passport fraud

MP Gord Brown is warning the public about potential passport fraud.

The Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes Member of Parliament says with many people renewing their passports before winter vacations it is important to remember there is a process to renewing your passport. No organisation, no matter what they tell you, can do it for you or expedite the process. According to Brown some organisations try to sell information kits that outline how to apply and may also falsely claim they can speed the application through. These websites may look official but they are not.

Brown explains that passport and nexus applications are free and available on the Passport Canada or Canadian Border Services Agency websites. They can also be found at Post Offices and Service Canada locations. He adds that in his riding his offices have been approved as passport service locations by Passport Canada but they cannot accept payment in the form of personal cheques or cash.
