Kemptville 73’s player put on NHL Watch List

John Beaton is one step closer to being drafted. The Kemptville 73’s centre has been put on the NHL Watch List. The 17-year-old lives in Stittsville and is in his third season with the 73’s.

Beaton says his dream is to play in the NHL and being put on the list is a step in the right direction. He says he’ll keep focusing on playing well and hopefully make the draft this year.

NHL scouts will be out to his games to consider him for the draft. If Beaton gets called up, he’ll be sent to development camp as one of the prospects. If he does well, a contract could be on the horizon.

He says getting drafted by any NHL team would be incredible, especially a Canadian team. The Ottawa Senators fan says getting picked up by the hometown team would be pretty special.

The next home game for the 73’s is this Friday night at the North Grenville Municipal Centre. The team faces off against Kanata starting at 7:30pm.
