This is Dog Bite Prevention Week and the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit says they responded to over 500 incidents of people being bitten by animals last year.

Health unit officials say a large proportion of these incidents involved dogs and in almost all of these incidents, the bite could have been prevented.

Here’s an option if you’re looking to get rid of your solar eclipse glasses.

The North Grenville Public Library is collecting the glasses and having them vetted for quality through Astronomers Without Borders.

They will then be sent to be reused at future solar eclipse events around the world.

Any glasses that are damaged or not reusable will be taken to a local specialty recycler with the capability of separating the solar film from the paper cardstock.

You’re reminded that solar eclipse glasses can’t be properly recycled in your curbside bin because of the mixed materials.
