MPP Steve Clark announces plans to introduce anti-federal carbon tax motion

Steve Clark says the federal carbon tax is too much, and he wants to see the Ontario government send that message before it’s too late.

Clark, the MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes, has announced plans to introduce Motion 82 to the Ontario legislature.

The motion calls for the federal liberals to stop an increase for the carbon tax rate scheduled for April 1st.

Clark says stopping that tax increase has support from all sides of the political spectrum.

“Even prominent NDP and Liberal politicians, including the Liberal Premier from Newfoundland and Labrador, have all come out against the carbon tax,” he says.

According to Clark, the tax hike would see gas prices rise as much as 17.6 cents per litre, putting even more strain on people struggling to afford rising costs of living.

“Motion 82 gives all Members of the Legislature an opportunity to send an important message to the Federal Liberals: an increase to the carbon tax is wrong and should be stopped,” he explains. “It’s never been more important to keep costs down.”

The motion will be introduced on Wednesday, March 27th.
