United Counties Warden commemorates International Women’s Day

Nancy Peckford says she’s looking forward to seeing women in business get some time in the spotlight.

March 8th is International Women’s Day. We spoke with Peckford, the Warden of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, about what the day means to her.

“I think, increasingly, there’s a recognition in our society among men and women that opportunities for female leadership can strengthen organizations,” Peckford says, “and that we can bring perhaps slightly different perspectives or viewpoints to the table.”

Peckford is only the fourth-ever female Warden of the United Counties. She says her perspective as both a woman and as a mother of several children informs her perspective on issues affecting our community.

“Women are often very efficient in getting things done,” she says, “so I have a can-do attitude that I’ve brought both to my mayor life, and to my role as Warden of the United Counties.”

Peckford says she’s glad to live in a time where it’s normal and common to celebrate International Women’s Day, to appreciate all the hard work women do.

If you want to mark the occasion, she says there’s an event happening at the North Grenville Municipal Centre you can attend for free from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on the 8th.
