North Grenville Road Safety Committee receives award from Ministry of Transportation

A local awareness group that organizes campaigns to raise awareness of safety issues on North Grenville’s roads has been recognized by the provincial government.

Mayor Nancy Peckford says the North Grenville Road Safety Committee, a group established in 2019, has received a “2021 Road Safety Achievement Award for Collaboration in Road Safety” from the Ministry of Transportation.

“The Committee has been solely focused on providing education and awareness to key road safety issues in our community,” Peckford explains. “As a high growth community, we recognize that there are increasing challenges to road safety throughout the Municipality no matter where you live. As a driver, pedestrian, or cyclist, it is crucial to be prepared and be aware. The Committee did a great job designing various ad campaigns to share important educational tips and information.”

The award has been presented annually to recognize groups and individuals for their work to make Ontario’s roads safer.

The North Grenville committee won for a year-long awareness campaign that focused on themes like winter driving, roundabouts and speeding, with a new theme every month.

“The award recognized the value of collaborative efforts between many public organizations and agencies and also provided an opportunity for residents to engage in the conversation,” adds Police Services Board Chair and Councillor John Barclay.
