Lieutenant Governor attends Platinum Jubilee flag raising in North Grenville

Elizabeth Dowdeswell says her main motivator to work as Lieutenant Governor of Ontario is being able to unify communities.

“The thing that really drives me is the opportunity that I have to convene people,” Dowdeswell says. “To bring people together, without a political agenda, to think about the things that really matter. To think about a longer time horizon than a political time horizon, and to really think about what is going to make us resilient and sustainable communities.”

Dowdeswell made an official visit to North Grenville Friday afternoon, including attending a flag raising ceremony celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

She says, in her opinion, celebrating the Queen’s service means celebrating the work of the people she serves.

“I think the best way we can say ‘thank you’ and honour her is by actually honouring those who provide service in their local communities,” she says. “So, I’m delighted to be here for the better part of this day, to spend it with you in all kinds of settings, and to learn more about your community.”
