Rabies bait drop begins August 7th in Leeds and Grenville

Expect to see more planes and aircraft than usual flying over our area in a few weeks.

Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has announced its plans for the annual rabies bait drop.

In rural areas like ours, marshmallow-scented pills that contain a liquid rabies vaccine are going to be dropped onto raccoon, skunk and fox habitats via aircraft.

The pills have the words “do not eat” and a toll free number you can call with any questions printed on them. If you see one, you’re being asked to avoid touching it, so that animals can eat it.

The airdropping begins in Leeds and Grenville on August 7th.
