RIDE stop leads to multiple weapons charges

Grenville County OPP says stopping a vehicle allowed them to find a wanted suspect.

Police made the stop on Wednesday around midnight in Edwardsburg-Cardinal. The driver was found to be wanted on a warrant. That’s according to the OPP, who adds they searched the vehicle and found a shotgun, ammunition, extendable batons, brass knuckles and some synthetic drugs.

As a result, a 37-year-old from Ottawa is charged with 12 offences, most of them firearms related. These include unauthorized possession of a firearm, and occupying a motor vehicle knowing there were prohibited firearms. They were also charged with drug possession and having a device used to intercept communications.

The accused will appear in court in Brockville in August.
