Former Kemptville Community Business Leader Passes Away

The community is mourning the passing of a longtime businessman.

Gerald K. Tallman passed away peacefully in his home Sunday, following a long battle with cancer.

Gerald started his career in the automotive industry as a youth, and grew to become the founder of his own trucking company Tallman Truck Centre.

In a press release, his company, now known as “Rush Truck Centres”, celebrated his legacy of entrepreneurship, kindness, and generosity.

“His diligence and commitment to helping others ensured his success and in 1970, Tallman opened his own garage and used car lot,” the release said. “In 1973, he became part owner of Kemptville Truck Centre, and shortly after, its sole proprietor. The dealership then grew to nine locations and rebranded to Tallman Truck Centre.”

In 2008, Gerald passed the business on to his son.

Through his career, he’s been recognized through the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from International Trucks for his consistent record of achievement and humanity over his career, and for acting as an excellent role model.

Gerald was also recognized by the North Grenville Chamber of Commerce as a Citizen of the Year, and Employer of the Year.

He also spearheaded the opening of the Tallman Family Emergency Room at the Kemptville District Hospital.

Gerald will be missed by his friends, family, co-workers, and the community.
