North Grenville To Host Public Information Session On Municipality’s Cannabis Study

North Grenville is looking for feedback on a cannabis study.

The municipality began the study back in November, which reviews the best practices for cannabis production and processing facilities in the community.

Mayor Nancy Peckford says producers have shown strong interest in our community, and there needs to be a clearer path about what our options are.

“We’re not the only community that’s fielding a lot of requests and applications from cannabis producers,” Peckford said. “By virtue of being more rural, there are lands that are available that are conducive to cannabis production facilities, either smaller or larger scale.”

The study reviewed the Cannabis Framework to understand the size and scale of Cannabis operations that are licensed by the Federal Government.

It also provides recommendations for policy implementation in North Grenville when it comes to new and establishing facilities.

Peckford says it looked at concerns ranging from odour, setbacks, noise, light pollution, and location, especially in proximity to residential areas.

“We’re fielding zoning applications, and working with producers so that there is no disruption, or so that the disruption is minimized,” Peckford said. “Not in every case can North Grenville say no, in some cases we can’t, but we can invoke restrictions and that’s the goal.”

A Public Information Session will take place on March 17th, at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom.
