Mayor Nancy Peckford issues statement in honour of Paramedics Service Week

Mayor Nancy Peckford says North Grenville’s Municipal Council thanks all frontline paramedics for their service and dedication.

Paramedics Service Week runs until this Saturday and Peckford says they would like to recognize members of the Leeds Grenville Paramedic Service in particular.

“Paramedics are often the first at the scene of an emergency, when patients are most vulnerable. The Leeds Grenville Paramedic Service is responsible for providing pre-hospital, emergency medical care to the more than 150,000 residents of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville. They serve a geographic area of over 3,350 square kilometres and respond to more than 20,000 calls a year.”

The service has six stations around Leeds and Grenville, including Kemptville. All stations are staffed 24 hours a day.

Peckford also says during this global pandemic health emergency, paramedics play an integral role on the front lines of health care.

“As the Paramedic Chiefs of Canada have emphasized, paramedics are often an early point of contact in the public arena. By virtue of their roles, they are ‘running toward’ the risks associated with a pandemic response when they arrive.”

Peckford asks that everyone join her and the rest of Council in recognizing the hard work paramedics do to keep the community safe and healthy.
