KYC continues to engage youth virtually

The Kemptville Youth Centre (KYC) is making the best of a bad situation.

The facility, which serves youth between the ages of 12 and 18, is temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Staff have turned to social media to continue engaging youth.

Program Coordinator Micaela Comerford says the KYC is running a creative contest every week, including silly selfies, fort building and trivia. She noted gift cards are up for grabs through the contests.

The virtual programming aims to keep spirits up during these challenging times, according to Comerford.

The KYC has also created a group on the Houseparty app so youth can stay in touch with friends and staff.

Comerford says it’s important for youth to know that someone is just a message or call away, so they don’t feel alone during this crisis.

The contests are open to all youth in the community. For more information, check out the Kemptville Youth Centre on Facebook or Instagram.
