Perth grandfather wins $1 million

It’s been 30 years in the making.

John Conroy, a 69-year-old Perth man, struck it rich on February 22. He won $1 million on the LOTTO 6/49 draw.

Conroy, a father of two with four grandchildren, has been a regular player for over three decades and this is his first big win.

He says he scanned his ticket using the OLG Lottery App and when he saw the screen, it was unbelievable.

The retiree plans on using some of the funds to pay for his grandchildren’s post-secondary education. Conroy explained the first one starts university in September. He says a new car could also be in order.

Conroy noted he’s still in shock.

You work almost all your life to save for retirement, and then this comes along,” he explained. ‘We’ve become accustomed to living on a budget – it’s going to take some getting used to this windfall.’

The winning ticket was purchased at Heritage Convenience on Gore Street in Perth.
