Sweetheart Brunch nets over $30,000 for local charities

It was a record breaking year for the Sweetheart Brunch. The 22nd annual event brought in over $30,000 for local charities. The Sweetheart Brunch, held in memory of Pat Maloney, took place last month.

Approximately $17,000 was handed out to community organizations, including the Ryan’s Well Foundation, Leeds & Grenville Interval House and Beth Donovan Hospice.

The event is put on by the Knights of Columbus, with help from over 100 volunteers.

Chair Jim McManaman says the Sweetheart Brunch usually nets between $18,000 and $22,000 annually. He noted more corporate sponsors came on board this year, and capital costs were down, which accounts for the additional funds. McManaman explained over 1,000 people were served this year.

Next year’s Sweetheart Brunch lands on February 14.
