HOL looking for people to adopt families this Christmas

The House of Lazarus (HOL) is putting out a call for people to help food bank clients through the holiday season. The annual adoption program is underway.

People can choose to provide a Christmas meal, gifts or both for locals in need. The program is open to families, seniors, couples and individuals. Over 150 people were adopted out last year.

Spokesperson Sandy Casselman says 90% of food bank clients have a combined household income of less than $30,000. She noted if they don’t have enough money for food, they certainly don’t have the means to create the kind of Christmas they want for their kids.

Casselman explained clients are still going full days without food because the food bank provides a one week supply, intended to supplement. She says the little bit of extra food at Christmas time really makes a difference.

There is no dollar value attached. People are provided the age and gender of each person and a wish list.

The goal is to have everyone adopted out by December 1 and get the items to the food bank for pick-up the week of December 9 to 13.

For more information or to participate, contact Client Services Manager Kim Merkley directly by emailing [email protected].

The HOL Food Bank serves nearly 700 people annually, stemming from North Grenville, South Grenville, North Dundas and South Dundas.
