Salvation Army moving into former Giant Tiger building

The Salvation Army Thrift Store in Kemptville is relocating.

Director Erin Wong says the store has outgrown the building on Asa Street and it’s time to expand. She noted the store brings in funds for programming, including back-to-school supplies and the snowsuit campaign.

Wong explained the plan is to have the Thrift Store operating out of the former Giant Tiger building, across from B&H Grocer, by March. She says the new space is double the size of the current store.

Wong noted this is just phase one and the plan is to use the other half of the building for the Salvation Army Church. She explained the office on Oxford Street, which is owned by the organization, will remain open. Wong says social work will continue at the site, which houses the food bank, and the goal is to grow programming.

The Salvation Army is hosting its first event in the new space on November 9. The organization is celebrating the official re-opening of its church. For more information, call 613-258-3583.
