NGFS hosting open house to mark Fire Prevention Week

The North Grenville Fire Service (NGFS) is getting the word out about fire safety. Fire Prevention Week runs from Sunday to October 12. The theme this year is ‘Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape!’

Fire Prevention Officer Shannon Armitage says it’s important for everyone to have a fire escape plan in place. She noted it only takes a few minutes and could save your life.

Armitage says most house fires happens between 11:00pm and 7:00am. She explained people have between one and two minutes to get out of their house safely in the event of a fire. Armitage says working smoke alarms increase your chances of getting out safely by 50%.

The NGFS will be on site at the Kemptville 73’s game on Sunday to launch Fire Prevention Week. People can drop by the municipal centre, starting at 2:00pm, to meet Sparky and tour the ladder truck.

An open house is set for next Thursday, October 10, at the Kemptville Fire Hall. It starts at 5:30 and wraps around 8:00pm. Firefighters will be serving up hot dogs and doing demonstrations.
