The federal election is now underway. An all-candidates meeting, focused on environmental issues, is set for October 2. It’s being held at the Aquatarium, from 7:00 to 9:00pm. Anyone in the riding is welcome to attend.
Sarah Tuck, one of the organizers, says the discussion will cover four broad categories. She noted that climate change, water, wildlife conservation and pollution are all on the docket.
All five candidates for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes will be in attendance. Michael Barrett (Conservative) is vying for re-election and he is challenged by Josh Bennett (Liberal), Michelle Taylor (NDP), Lorraine Rekmans (Green) and Evan Tennant-Hindle (People’s Party of Canada).
Tuck says the world is at a critical juncture right now. She noted that climate change is affecting the air we breathe, the water we drink and the way we live our lives. Tuck explained without effective policies, changes will be hard to make.
Questions for the discussion are being submitted by local high school students. Audience members will not be able to ask questions.
