Mountain Orchards creates ‘We The North’ maze for charity

A local business is celebrating the first Canadian NBA title in a unique way. Mountain Orchards created a ‘We The North’ corn maze to raise money for charity. Donation boxes will be set up at the entrance and exit of the maze. All proceeds will go to Jumpstart, which covers the cost for local kids to participate in sports.

Owner Phil Lyall says his children all enjoyed playing sports and if he can help somebody else get a start, that’s what he’s going to do.

The maze at Mountain Orchards paid homage to Jonathan Pitre (The Butterfly Boy) last year and raised $3,000 for DEBRA Canada, which supports families impacted by epidermolysis bullosa (EB).

Lyall noted the maze was always used in the past to celebrate family events. He explained the decision was made last year to align with local charities because the community supports the orchard.

Lyall designed the maze and it took two days to create. Mountain Orchards opens for the season tomorrow.
