Swimming is not recommended at four beaches in Leeds, Grenville and Lanark. The Merrickville Beach, Kelly’s Beach in Prescott, Riverside in Carleton Place and South Crosby (Sand Lake) Beach in Rideau Lakes are listed as ‘caution’ by the Health Unit.
The latest tests of the water indicated unacceptable levels of bacteria.
The Health Unit monitors the area’s public bathing beaches annually. This year’s sampling runs until August 31. Five water samples are collected from each beach, which are analyzed for the presence of E. coli bacteria.
