Local girl donates hair to cancer patients

Emma Button has been growing her hair for the past two years with one purpose in mind. The local 6-year-old chopped off 10 inches on Sunday in support of Locks of Love. This is the second time Button has donated her hair to cancer patients.

Melissa Button, Emma’s mom, says it was a two-for-one deal. She noted her sister owns a salon and was participating in Wesfest.

Melissa says her sister was cutting hair all day and the money went to charities supported by Westfest, so it was a double whammy.

The first time Button donated hair was at the age of 4.

Melissa says she danced with a little girl who had cancer, who is doing very well now. She explained her daughter noticed that the girl didn’t have any hair and when it started to grow back, it was the exact same colour as her own.

Button asked if she could donate hair to the little girl and that’s what started the trend, according to Melissa.
