Council announces 2-year work plan

The living document that will guide North Grenville Council over the next two years was presented last night. An overview of the draft work plan was provided.

The plan focuses on three key areas: sustainable and strategic growth, creating a healthy and cohesive community and collaborative leadership.

Mayor Nancy Peckford says the purpose of the plan is simple. She says it clearly indicates to the community where council felt urgent action was required and also potential shifts in direction.

The next step for council is to break down the plan into action items.

Deputy Mayor Jim McManaman says the plan is useful. He says what council developed is a light-weight plan, which is perfect. McManaman noted it gets right to the point and work plan updates are now a permanent item on council meeting agendas, to make sure it’s addressed weekly.

The cost of developing the 6-page work plan was around $7,500.

The focus of council, under sustainable and strategic growth, includes creating jobs, safer roads and sidewalks and environmental stewardship. Active transportation, affordable housing and recognizing rural heritage fall under healthy and cohesive community. Collaborative leadership speaks to communication and fiscal responsibility.
