Local fundraiser to benefit Femme International

The third annual concert and afternoon tea is support of Femme International is coming up. The event is set for Sunday at North Grenville District High School. It runs from 1:00 to 5:00pm. Tickets are $10 for adults and free for kids. Every dollar goes towards the cause.

Organizer Elisabeth Rubli, mother of Sabrina Rubli who founded Femme International, says the non-profit was recently recognized by the World Health Organization. She says Femme International was named one of the top 30 innovators in Africa.

The event will include live entertainment courtesy the big baNG drummers and Fiddlehead Soup. There will also be a silent auction featuring items from Tanzania. Sabrina will be the guest speaker this year.

Rubli says the money raised will be used for education and menstrual kits. She says the kit includes re-usable products, such as washable pads and menstrual cup. Rubli explained 75 per cent of schools in Tanzania don’t have bathrooms, so girls miss one week of school each month on average. She says the kits remove the financial burden and provide basic needs for girls to manage their own bodies.
