Panthers recognized for International Silver Stick win

A local hockey team was recognized for its International Silver Stick win. The Kemptville Panthers Atom B team was presented certificates from the Municipality of North Grenville last night. The Panthers were named Silver Stick champs in January. Only three local teams have captured the title in the past two decades.

Coach Rob Kennedy says the team went up against the San Jose Jr Sharks in the finals. He says the Panthers were a little nervous because the team is sponsored by its NHL namesake. Kennedy says after a shaky first period, the Panthers ended up dominating the rest of the game and winning 11-2.

He says winning the Silver Stick is an enormous challenge and it’s even more impressive when the team comes from a small rural community.

Members of council congratulated the coach and all the players.
