The Municipality of North Grenville is getting a one-time top up from the Federal Gas Tax Fund. The annual grant typically totals $500,000. North Grenville will get around $1 million this year.
Director of Finance Marcus Hewitt says it essentially doubles the amount the municipality will receive for capital projects. Â
Gas Tax dollars can be used for things like public transit, waste management, roads and bridges, tourism and recreation. Â Â
Mayor Nancy Peckford says in terms of deployment of these resources, those decisions are made locally and meant to align with infrastructure needs in the community.
This follows special one-time funding from the province announced last month, totaling $632,000 for North Grenville. Council will discuss options for the additional funding at a later date.
