Zoning approved for affordable housing project

North Grenville Council voted in favour of amending the zoning for an affordable housing project. The land, located on Jack Street, was changed from residential first density to residential third density.

Community Living North Grenville and Lockwood Brothers Construction have partnered on the project, which includes an 11-unit complex.

The decision follows a heated discussion during the Committee of the Whole meeting last week, when the zoning amendment was first brought forward.

Deputy Mayor Jim McManaman says it’s a good project. He says Community Living is an outstanding organization that works tirelessly to help people.

The next stage for the project is the site plan approval process.

There is an existing duplex on the property and the plan is to build 9 new town homes in 3-unit blocks. Construction is set to begin this spring.
