Kemptville team not selected as finalist for Good Deeds Cup

The Kemptville Storm girls peewee house team is out of the running for the Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup. The top 10 finalists were announced on Saturday.

The team has been helping out in the community to qualify for the competition, which came with a $100,000 grand prize for the team to donate to its charity of choice.

Team Manager Marie-Maddalena MacLean says the Good Deeds Cup was not a loss for the team. She says the competition opened the player’s eyes to the importance of volunteering and giving their time was worth more than anything.

The team entered the Good Deeds Cup back in November. The players sent Christmas cards to troops overseas, took part in the Santa Shuffle and manned kettles in support of the Salvation Army.

The girls also helped out with the 97.5 Juice FM Radiothon and sang Christmas carols to local seniors. One of the players spent Christmas eve handing out hats and mitts to homeless people in Ottawa.

MacLean says the players had fun helping out the community. She says the team is still around to help out wherever and whenever it can.

The Storm Girls plan on making another bid for the Good Deeds Cup next year.
