OPP set to launch Festive R.I.D.E. campaign

OPP officers will be out doing R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) checks. The annual Festive R.I.D.E. campaign kicks off tomorrow. It runs until January 2.

Inspector Mike Francis says he is calling on all road users to help everyone stay safe over the holidays. He says if you are out on the road and suspect that a driver is impaired, call 9-1-1.

The OPP Drug Recognition Evaluators (DRE) will also be taking part in the campaign. Officers will be laying drug-impaired driving charges. The OPP says DREs have the tools and expertise to test for drug impairment.

The OPP is reminding people that they have a role to play in ending impaired driving related deaths. The OPP says by staying sober, you could be saving lives.
