Advance polling stations open Friday for federal by-election

A federal by-election is underway in Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes. The by-election will fill the MP seat left vacant since the death of Gord Brown in May.

Elections Canada says people should have their voter information cards by now. If you don’t have one click here to make sure you’re registered to vote.

Advance polling stations are open from 12 noon to 8:00pm on November 23, 24, 25 and 26. There will be 15 advance polling locations across the riding.

Spokesperson Natasha Gauthier says people can also vote at the two Elections Canada offices from now until November 27. One office is located in Brockville at the Apex building and the other is in Kemptville at the Creekside Mall.

Election day is December 3. There will be 54 polling stations across the riding open from 8:30am to 8:30pm that day.

Gauthier says it’s important for electors to check their voter information cards to make sure everything is up to date. She says it’s easy to update the information online using the link above.

There are about 80,600 electors in the riding. Voter turnout was 71.5 per cent during the last general federal election in 2015.
