St. Mike’s food drive brings in over 2,200 items, $505

The Knights of Columbus Food Bank got a boost from the students and staff at St. Michael Catholic High School. The school ran a food drive this week that brought in over 2,200 items and $505. All donations were picked up today.

Organizer Father John Whyte says he would have been happy with 1,000 cans but there was amazing response for the food drive. He says there was one class that donated 20 items per person.

Teacher Michael Hurd agreed to shave off his beard if the food drive exceeded 1,200 items. That promise was fulfilled today in front of hundreds of students.

Whyte says a group of grade nine students helped out with the food drive. He says the food drive prompted important conversations about the importance of giving.
