Bayfield Manor expansion to bring 90 new jobs to Kemptville

Plans are in the works to expand Bayfield Manor in Kemptville. The Ontario Government announced 94 new long-term care beds for the facility at the beginning of the month.

A new state-of-the-art, three story facility will be built on the existing property. It will house 96 long-term care beds.

Southbridge Care Homes Director of Communications Patrick Moore says the current structure will either get a complete overhaul or be torn down and rebuilt. He says the company will have to bring in architects to see what can be done.

Once the new building is finished, the 66 residents at Bayfield will be moving in. Then work will begin on the existing building.

The expansion will decrease wait times for long-term care beds locally, which Moore says is around 256 days right now. He says the cost will not be going up for residents.

Moore says the expansion will bring probably 90 new jobs to Kemptville. He says nurses, PSWs and activity aids will be needed to serve the influx of residents.

The new facility may have a hub area, featuring a coffee shop and daycare. Moore says the purpose is to bring people into the facility to interact with residents.

Moore expects the whole project to take about four years. He says Southbridge is currently waiting for a development agreement from the ministry and construction should start in about a year.
