Kemptville not chosen as new home for Canada 150 Rink

CBC News is reporting that Canadian Heritage has made a decision about the Canada 150 Rink from Parliament Hill. The rink will make its new home in Gananoque, where it may be named after the late Gord Brown.

Brown passed away in May and a crowdfunding campaign was launched to build the Gord Brown Memorial Rink in Gananoque. The project was a dream of the longtime Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MP.

Southgate Community Church in Kemptville also put in a bid for the rink. The church has operated an outdoor rink, free for the whole community to use, for years. It is now building a new rink and hoped to get a boost from the Canada 150 Rink.

The church says the North Grenville Community Rink will go ahead with or without the Canada 150 Rink.
